Last week of school already?!

  • Dec. 3rd, 2007 at 3:07 PM

So I officially suck at updating this thing. I can't believe the semester is practically over. One more semester left until we go into the real world. Liz and I have been looking at apartments online. Some of the prices and locations seem too good to be true, but I guess we'll see once we visit this break. It's weird to think that we're actually going to be living there.

Despite the fact that I feel pretty much screwed for all my exams...I'm really happy. haha For once in my life, things seem to be falling into place, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. =]

ps. I heart my friends.

So...school has been ok so far. I'm already waaaaaay behind in all my classes....but I really don't care. I'm going through major 4th-year-itis already. I just need to graduate and my life will be good. haha

It feels so good to have a job offer. It's like a weight off my shoulders. I don't know why I even bothered going to the career fair on Friday. Talking to all the other retailers just made me realize how much better it'd be working for Macy's and at least I know I love it. The pay is good and I figure I'd rather not go through the stress of interviewing/negotiating with more companies when I know that Macy's is the best place to start for a buyer. I just wish New York wasn't so fricken expensive. Thursday night Raymond took Liz, Rachel, and I to dinner at Zocalo care of Macy's of course. It was nice just hanging out and talkin about the other interns and some of the most random ass stuff ever. AAhhh I miss New York. Random rant: Who the hell shows up to a career fair without a resume?!! I MEAN CMON NOW! lol The encounter definitely made me and Liz's day. =] In the words of Jared, "SILLAY BITCHES!"

OYFA's big/lil sib week started today. The rest of the week is gonna be hella busy and it's gonna suck. I can't waiiiiiit til Fall break. It'll be nice to go home. Plus I know I'll need that weekend to do some major catch up work. aaah liiiiiife.

FINALLY some good news in the midst of this crappy week:

LIZ AND I GOT JOB OFFERS FROM MACY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do all good things come to an end?

  • Aug. 13th, 2007 at 9:18 PM

Ok soo...I don't even know where to begin. I'm finally home and I don't know what to do with myself. I hate this transition period. My last week spent in NYC was bittersweet. I was more than ready to go back to VA, but ridiculously sad to say goodbye to my life and friends in NY. I never thought I would actually fall in love with the city, but I guess I was fortunate enough to have met some amazing people who made my experience what it was.

Everything last week went by 10 million times faster than it usually does. It was market week so all the Macy's buyers from all over the US came to meet up with vendors, so I didn't spend much time in the office. I was out to market most of Tues, Wed and Thursday. I saw some of the most prettiest dresses I've seen in my life, and it made me wish that I were rich so that I could buy them all. haha Never again will I look at dresses in the same way. On Tuesday after we presented our final projects then some of us went to the main floor to see Sarah Jessica Parker who was at Macy's promoting her new perfume. But it was too fricken crowded to get a good glimpse of her, so I left to meet up with my buyers at market. When we came back, we were waiting for the elevators...and guess who walks out? Sarah Jessica Parker! haha All of us were mad cheezin and she walks by, smiles, and says "Hi." CRAZY I KNOW.

On Thursday, the whole dresses division surprised me and another dress dept intern with goodbye breakfast. =] It felt nice that they actually acknowledged all the work we did, and that we were really a part of the team and not just some lowly interns.

That night, Macy's treated us out to dinner at Heartland Brewery and then we took a trip to the top of the Empire State building. Afterwords some of us decided to go to Blockheads for the very last time this summer. Oh blockheads...how I'm going to miss our happy hour Thursdays there. On a side note, it's funny how things change when you put things in perspective. sigh Friday I woke up early to buy some flowers for my buyers. Saying goodbye to them was sad. Unlike a lot of the other interns, I was lucky enough to be assigned to an awesome buying team. I think I would have hated my job if it weren't for them. We had a final breakfast with all the interns Friday morning and we said our goodbyes to those who were leaving that evening to go home. After work I had lunch with liz and jared, then todd met up with us and we all did some shopping back at Macy's. That night Jennifer paid me a surprise visit and so she came out with me and liz to meet up with some of the few interns that were still in the city. Unfortunately we weren't able to get into the club since Jcam wasn't 21, so we decided to go to Haru say goodbye to our favorite bartender. As usual he hooked us up with some saweet drinks and we went home.

Saturday I woke up early and picked up my computer, went home, went back to Macy's to exchange something, went to Forever21, and then met up with liz at one of the corner cafes. Liz and I then went to Alfangi salon where we got our makeup done, a manicure, and a massage to use the rest of our promotion package thing. I've never gotten a massage before in my life. Let me tell you...it's awkward. haha I mean it was nice, but yeah it's not something I'd do on a regular basis unless it was really cheap. After Alfangi, we met up with Nasty at Starbucks so we could say goodbye. Then we had dinner with Liz's parents in Korea town. Liz's cousin and friend was visiting so we decided to take them to Asian Pub. After we met up with Nelson and some of the brag interns for some karaoke. I don't even know how long we stayed at the place but it was sooooo much fun. I have to say, it was the BEST way to end my stay in NY for numerous reasons. =]

Now I'm home and it feels weird. I'm happy to be able to finally relax, but it just feels different. I don't think I could ever really describe how great of an experience this summer has been. I ended the school year disappointed about a lot of things and not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. As cheezy as it sounds, I've definitely learned a lot more about myself. I made some amazing new friendships, and strengthened one that I already had. (Liz I wouldn't have survived w/o you! Bridesmaid material!) So all in all, this summer just reaffirmed to me that God seriously does everything for a reason. =] And now I'm looking forward to living up my 4th year at UVA. BE READY!

Ok if you sat down and read this whole thing, cheers to you. Sorry if this was a total bore. haha

Tonight is my my last night here in NYC, and I'm really really sad to be leaving...

Stay tuned for a ridiculously long entry.

Time flies when you're having fun

  • Aug. 1st, 2007 at 7:45 PM

Only a week and a half to go. I can't believe I'm going home so soon. Where did the summer go?!

Weekend recap:
Thursday: went to happy hour at some bar with some interns. The bar was filled with ridiculously old men who were trying to find girlfriends. I felt ridiculously young. So me and liz left early. haha
Friday: Blockheads for drinks. 3 hour nap. Todd's bday party @Bar XII. Liz and I met a lot of his penn friends, and his best friend Mathias bought us a few rounds.
Saturday: Went to the apple store in soho and found out that my hard drive was totally fried. STUPID COMPUTER. Apparently there was no good reason as to why my Macbook died except that it was just an unfortunate event. So now I have to pay 150 bucks somewhere to get it fixed and hopefully they can do some data recovery. (I'm on liz's comp now) So yeah that's why I haven't been online for the past week.
Sunday: Saw the Simpsons movie with liz. Good movie. Go see it.

Ok...yeah I just write these things so I can remember what i've done here. My entries are pretty boring. Sorry!

Good times as usual

  • Jul. 22nd, 2007 at 6:20 PM

This week we were in the planning office, and I felt completely useless. lol I literally got paid to sit and listen to people explain what they do all week. I think the buying side is so much more exciting, and I'd much rather deal with vendors than actual store locations. Plus I felt like the whole floor was way too quiet. Oh well, at least the people I met were pretty chill about me not doing anything. haha I also sat down with my buyer to go over how I've been doing these past few weeks. The only bad thing she said about me was the fact that I show up to work earlier than she does. haha =]

On Wednesday we went back to blockheads to celebrate Jared and Renasty's bday. On our way there we walked by when the steam pipe exploded. It was ridiculous because you'd think that people would be running away but people were standing around and taking pictures! We were all like...what the heck is wrong with people?!

Theresita, Elvizzle, Big sib, and Billy came to visit this weekend. I was sad that they were only able to stay one night but we ended up doing a crap load of stuff while they were here. Friday night Liz and I met them up at their hotel then ate dinner. We took them to Haru but unfortunately it was kinda busy so benny didn't give us as much free alcohol as he usually does. haha Afterwords we went to Asian pub for some lycheetinis and some more edamame. Then we got some hot dogs at gray's papaya for a late night snack.

On Saturday we walked around bloomingdale's for a little bit since the wait was long at Serendipity. The desserts were soooo goooood. Pricey...but amazingly good. I'm in the mood to watch the movie now. haha After Serendipity we walked around Times Square and went to the Kwik-E-Mart. We all stocked up on some squishees, buzz colas, and the signature pink donut. Unfortunately they ran out of Krusty-O's cereal, but it was still pretty cool that they had the store decked out with Simpsons decorations. Their bus was leaving from China town so we ended up eating dinner at the siopao place liz and I always go to. The dim sum was pretty good, although the place seemed ridiculously dirty especially with the random cat sleeping in a box a few booths over. After dinner we parted ways. =[ Being with them made me want to go back to nova. haha I always get that empty feeling when you part with friends or family after you spend an amazing time together. It's like...you feel kinda lonely or you're going home to an empty house. I'm glad liz is still here with me.

So after they left, Liz and I went to Renasty's karaoke birthday party. She had rented a private room and it was mostly all of her penn friends. There was only one other Macy's intern there so we didn't really know anyone and we just kinda stuck together. but it was fun for the most part.

Good? Bad? I don't even know anymore. ooooooyyyyyy

3 weeks to go.

Jul. 15th, 2007

  • 7:46 PM

I really don't feel like going to work tomorrow. This week we're being put in the planning office to see whether or not we'd rather do that instead of buying. I'm pretty sure I'd rather do buying since planning is more numbers and less fashion oriented. But yeah...oh well. I think i'll be focusing a lot better this week...

Thursday night me and some of the interns went to a restaurant/bar called blockheads, and we ended up staying there for like...5 hours. I don't even know why we stayed that long, but it was good times as usual. Friday I did some shopping then liz and I decided we were just gonna stay in for once. Sooo Saturday we did some shopping at Macy's since it was the one day sale. I bought a north face jacket that i was super excited about cuz it was like 70% off! Nelson and kenny and two of their friends coincidentally were shopping at Macy's as well so we met up with them and went to China Town for dinner. After, liz and I did a lil more shopping on 34th street and went home to get ready to meet up with her sis. Me and liz ended up going back to Haru since we were in the area and the silent assassin hooked us up with free drinks once again. Then we met up with some people at another bar and went home. yeaaaaaaah typical weekend here in nyc.

I finally got to see Harry Potter today. Of course the books are always better, but I still enjoyed it. I think out of all the books the 5th one was my least favorite because it was a bit darker than the rest of them. I'm super excited for the 7th book to come out this weekend. I preordered my book so it'd be sent here to NY. haha Although I don't think i'll have much time to read it since elvizzle, theresita, big sib, and billy are coming this weekend. I'm SOOOO excited for them to come. =] Everyone seems to have a lot of friends from school in the city except for me and liz, so it'll be nice to have them here. Plus I miss them like whoa!

I'm done playing these stupid games. nooooooooo more! A new start this week. =] 4 more to go.

Back to School Vendor Fair

  • Jul. 11th, 2007 at 4:23 PM

Today we didn't have to go to the office. Instead all the interns volunteered at the annual Macy's Back to School Vendor Fair. Basically a whole bunch of vendors come to educate store managers and associates about the new trends for kids and juniors. As interns we were assigned a group and basically just walked with them to each vendor booth. So we didn't really do anything. haha There was a fashion show with some kids and like Nelly and Diddy did a conference call thanking Macy's for their support of thier lines. Tamyra Gray from American Idol came and sang a song too. But I think the best part of it was the fact that we all walked out with a huge Hello Kitty bag full of swag from all the different vendors. Most of the stuff was for guys soo imma just give em to my kuya but yeaaaah it looked like there were a lot of extra bags...so maybe I'll be able to get more from work tomorrow.

Today was a very good day. =] 4 and a 1/2 more weeks to go!

Best concert ever....

  • Jul. 8th, 2007 at 12:41 AM

I just came home from the Live Earth concert. It had to have been the best concert I've been to in my life. (not that i've been to many haha) The line up was incredible and for 100 bucks it was tooooottally worth it. Liz and I got great seats and we were under some shade so it was perfect! Surprisingly all the performances were really organized and it had a revolving stage so as one act was on...the other was getting ready. And if there was a long wait between acts, they'd show performances of the other Live Earth concerts from the other countries. Or they would have some celebrity come out and talk about global warming. But yeah...I think the performances by Alicia Keys, Ludacris, and Kanye were some of my faves. But by far Bon Jovi was the best out of the whole line up. He had the crowd up on their feet and singing the whoooole time. It was like...ultimate karaoke. He's also pretty hot for an old guy. haha The Police were pretty awesome too. Sting is another hot old guy. haha

So I went to the hospital on Thursday because my foot was like killing me...but thank God nothing was broken. The doc said it was just really badly bruised. When I asked him if i could get crutches, he flat out refused to give em to me. lol He was like "no they'd be worse for you, but I can give you a cane if you want." I was like uhh...I'll be good. He said I could put pressure on my foot and gave me some antibiotics just in case it was infected from that hobag's dirty stiletto. So on Friday my foot was SOOO much better and i could walk! But...I think I made it worse today cuz i totally bruised my toes more by walking around. btw me and liz were almost crushed in a mob as we tried getting on the shuttle bus back to the train station. It was ridiculously scary for two 5 foot girls...and it was even better cuz i was like crippled. oy We barely made the last train back to NY. It was craaazy.

This week kinda sucked in terms of my situation. 5 more weeks to go. =[

So clueless...

  • Jul. 1st, 2007 at 2:51 PM

I can't believe me and liz have been here for about a month now. I feel like there are so many things to look forward to every week that time flies like nothing. We have 6 more weeks to make things happen. haha

On Wednesday they took us to the Brooklyn store so we could compare it to Herald square. It was fun since it was probably the first outing that we've had with our whole intern class. Thursday we had happy hour/dinner at Asian pub then more drinks at Haru. The silent assassin remembered my name! holler for free drinks. =] Friday we had this teambuilding day with some other Macy's, MMG, and Bloomingdales interns. It was soooooo stupid. Everyone was so cynical when we were doing the activities and some of the girls in my group were really snotty. We were all kinda mad that they split us up cuz it definitely woulda been more productive to team up with people we're actually going to be working with. Then after did the activities they made us walk for an hour to go to the place where we were supposed to have lunch. Oh well...we got paid to do it so I guess I shouldn't complain. haha That night we tried going to some bar that had beer pong but then it had a cover and it seemed really sketchy so we went to some place called Pourman's house. Everytime we said the name it sounded like we were at "whoreman's house." haha Btw the night could have been ridiculously awkward if it weren't for my wingman liz. Best part of the night: the brag interns laughing at a certain situation.

Saturday liz and I met up with Nelson at the Museum of Natural History. We were totally bummed when we found out the exhibit that we wanted to go to was sold out, but we decided to just walk around anyway. It was a nice chill way to spend a Saturday afternoon. =] Afterwards we met up with Todd and some of his friends for drinks and dinner at this place called Blockhead. they invited us to some birthday party at some club and yeah...the night kinda sucked once we got to the club. Some stupid bia stabbed me with her stiletto heel and it got caught in my strap so she like dragged me as she walked way. I wanted to cry but I didn't want to in front of strangers. it was sooooooooo painful. but...it was ok cuz i kicked the girl in her calf for payback. lol I swear I might get me and liz killed one day. So me and liz went home and I didn't realize my foot was in such bad condition until this morning. My foot is ridiculously swollen and my toes are bruised and the girl broke skin cuz you can see the blood mark of where she stabbed me. uggghh So I'm gonna roll up into work tomorrow limping. Let's hope the swelling goes down by tomorrow.

I'm so glad we don't have work on Wednesday. Me and liz still haven't decided what we're gonna do. Although I'm sure her sister knows where we should go to see some fireworks and get some drinks with our fellow interns. Itd be perfect to watch from our apt rooftop...but it's stupid cuz no boys are allowed. This coming saturday Liz and I are going to the live earth concert. I'm soooo excited! Ok...i need to ice my foot and do some laundry. haha

why's it gotta be so complicated?!

  • Jun. 24th, 2007 at 5:24 PM

Just when me and liz thought things were going just right...in less than 24 hours we get like 10 million curveballs to our situations. haha

Oh well I'm still loving it here, and I kinda feel like things are too good to be true. I actually could see myself living here, and I love my job and...the weekends have been (for the most part) amazingly fun.

On Tuesday EY sent Gabe here to do some training stuff. So liz and I met up with him and had a free dinner care of EY! haha Wednesday I met up with Gabe again and we like walked all over NYC and had a nice lil chat in Bryant park. It was kinda surreal that we might actually be living here after graduation and that everyone will be parting ways. But yeah...I guess we'll worry about that when it comes. Thursday we went bar hopping which was super fun cuz we got to be friends with a bartender that went by the name of "Silent Assassin." haha Friday...more bar hopping...and Saturday bar hopping(big surprise!) and then clubbing. We went all the way to Queens to eat Chinese food after the club...and I saw the sun rise as we drove home. Can life get any better? haha

woohoo

  • Jun. 14th, 2007 at 10:10 PM

Today was the best day ever for two reasons:
1. I bought a Jessica McClintock dress for 25 bones.
2. I went to a fun dinner with some of my fellow interns and had myself another lycheetini.

I'm so lovin macy's right now. haha Oh yeah...sample sale tomorrow! HOLLA

First Weekend in the Big Apple...

  • Jun. 12th, 2007 at 8:33 PM

On Friday's we get off work at 1, which is saweeet. So I went to lunch with a couple of the other interns. Then afterwards liz and I did some shopping around 34th street for some work clothes. The Forever21 is HUUUGE but...they really need to invest in some air conditioning. That night a fellow intern picked us up and took us to this bar called Asian Pub. They had the most AMAZING lycheetinis. Then we went to another bar near the nyu dorms and didn't get back til like 5 am. Going out to these bars makes me really miss survivor hour's 1 dollar drinks. oy...so expensive.

On Saturday, Ger came to NY to visit, and she brought me and liz to Chinatown for some good cheap eats and bubble tea. Then we did some more shopping at SOHO and NOHO. After Ger left, liz and I watched Shrek 3. The fact that Justin Timberlake was in it...made it the best movie ever. hahaha

I'm gonna be broke by the time I go back to Virginia. Sample sales will be the death of me...and the fact that liz and I live right in the middle of some awwwesome shopping areas....is really bad. Not to mention food and drinks and metro tickets and shows....oy. No money left over. I also realized at how much more superficial I've grown in this past week. I want a pair of william rast jeans for the pure fact that it's justin timberlake's brand. Ok really though...I need to stop shopping. haha

Today, work was bad. Me and liz showed up late to this lunch and learn thing and not only did we show up late...but we walked in the front door...where the speaker was talking. So everyone stopped and stared as we tried to find seats in an already full room. We didn't even get to eat our lunch cuz the room was like dead silent so you could hear the ruffling of plastic bags and opening of chips. Later one of our teachers was like "for those who came late to the lunch and learn...you need to be on time etc"...yeah so she basically called us out. WE WERE LOST! Macy's is so fricken huge and confusing. oooy. Whatev, this weekend should be fun and my floor is having a sample sale!! woohoo!

Day 3 @Macy's

  • Jun. 6th, 2007 at 10:21 PM

So every day gets progressively better at work. Today I went to market with my buying team, and I know it's a little early to tell...but I kinda think going into the buying world is going to be the perfect job for me. We basically met up with a vendor, and they showed us all their dresses, and we picked out which dresses we liked. haha Usually other departments only go to market a few times a month, but for dresses, we go every week! So...yeah even though it's a lot of computer work involved...I think the shopping part makes up for it. The classes the interns have to take are kind of tedious, but everyone is so awesome, that we all try to make the best of it. It'll be nice to hang out with all of em outside of Macy's. Ok time for bed. Night all!

I'm gonna try and update more

  • Jun. 4th, 2007 at 10:22 PM

I haven't really written in my online journals for a while...I guess I kinda got lazy. Also I don't think people really read this any more. I'm gonna try and write more just for reference for myself. I read all my old entries a few days ago...and a lot of them are pretty stupid. Hell...even the ones I write now are stupid. Oh well...

So today was my first day of work at Macy's. It was ridiculously long and tiring...even though we didn't really do any work. It was all meet and greet, paperwork, computer forms, and other orientation stuff. The other interns seem pretty cool...well most of em at least. haha I shouldn't make judgments already...but I guess we'll see. I got placed under the moderate dresses buying team. The people I'm going to be shadowing and working with are AMAZING. They're ridiculously friendly, understanding, and genuinely want to help. Which kinda scares me cuz then I'll feel uber bad if I mess up something. Everyone seems to be excited to see interns. Everyone kept passing by and saying "awww INTERNS!!" Liz got placed with the dressy sleepwear department. HAHA which is HILARIOUS. Especially since there's supposed to be a day when we can model the clothes or like hold em up for the buyers at one point during our internship. But I think the best part of the job is how we can work 9 hours monday through thurs...then get off at 1 oclock on Friday. Which will be SAWEET. Also we're forbidden by our internship to work more than 40 hours. Which is fine by me...cuz I was exhausted after today. oy I think its gonna be a fun yet tiring experience this summer.

I can't wait for the UVA peeps to come visit!! woohoooooo

  • Nov. 24th, 2006 at 10:18 PM

I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. I know i did. I have lots of things to be thankful for: my family, friends, and good health. What more could I ask for?

Break has been pretty chill. I definitely needed to get away from cville. As much as I love it there...sometimes you just need to get away. I haven't really been doing much cept for some reading for school (ew) and watching some rented movies from dollar video. haha But it's been nice just hanging out with the family. Tomorrow is VSA Turkeybowl@GMU, and I'm pretty excited except for the fact that I haven't gone to practice in like...forever.

Ok...time to do some more reading. Peace out friends!

Timing just doesn't seem to like me very much. BOO TIMING YOU SUCK
